Falcons place ninth in
State, Wright heads to State
North Pointe's Varsity Chess Team placed ninth at the AIA
State Team Chess Championships. It was the second top
ten finish in only the school's third year of competition.
“We ended up losing to the teams who have consistently
placed first and second in state for the last five years,"
said Coach Nick Leonardi. "There are over fifty chess
teams in the State and to end up in the top ten is an
impressive feat.” The Prep's Sophomore Luke Wright, who
won five out of six games against some of the best players
in the region and ended up in 7th place overall, will
compete November 18th-19th at the State Individual
Championships.
