Varsity Soccer 2010-2011 Game Summaries
Game 12 vs Northwest Christian
The Falcons closed out the season with a 7-0 loss to defending State Champions and the current #1 team in the State undefeated Northwest Christian.
Though the team played with energy and was able to create a few scoring opportunities, they couldn’t find the goal and were unable to stop the potent
Northwest offense.  Senior Gabriel Gil played a great game in the midfield and on defense in the last game of his high school career.  Ben Carlos made
several stand-out plays on defense and goalie Anthony Casselman had several nice saves in goal.

Game 11 at Sedona
It was a cold evening in Sedona with temperatures ranging in the 30’s and 40’s with the wind-chill factor.  Playing with 3 reserves, the Falcons battled
throughout the match, eventually falling 3-1.  Goalie Anthony Casselman had several nice saves, with 17 total saves.  Tyler Hayes scored on an assist by
Kevin Pino.  

Game 10 at Arizona Lutheran
Giving up two goals early in the game, the Falcons were unable to come from behind and get the victory, falling 3-2 in a disappointing loss.  The Prep
controlled the game and had numerous scoring opportunities, but struggled finding the goal.  Anthony Casselman and Preston Gender each scored a goal in
the loss.

Game 9 vs Santa Cruz at Moon Valley
Santa Cruz entered the game winless and determined to get their first win.  The Falcons were scrambling to adjust to the loss of key starting midfielder Froilan
Maldonado.  The game ended up being perhaps the most exciting in the two year history of the North Pointe soccer program.  The momentum shifted back
and forth throughout the game, with the Falcons finally pulling out the win in overtime, winning in a penalty kick shootout.  The final score was 3-2.  Tyler
Hayes and John Debus each scored a goal.  Goalie Anthony Casselman had 16 saves and scored the winning goal in the PK shootout.

Game 8 at Northwest Christian
Facing a #1 ranked Northwest Christian squad that is deep and experienced, the Falcons played with passion and intensity. Playing without starting senior
midfielder Froilan Maldonado and talented freshman Asia Logsdon, who were both injured, the team was thin and played with only 3 subs.  Though the final
score was 7-0, the Falcons effort was great and the players battled throughout the game.  Reserves Kevin Pino and Nathan Eckert stepped up to play great
defense in the second half of the game and goalie Anthony Casselman had 16 saves.

Game 7 at Bourgade Catholic
The Falcons held #8 ranked Bourgade scoreless in the first half, but struggled in the second half, losing the game 3-0.  Keeper Fadi Sayegh had 5 saves in
his first game of the season, having been out with an injury.  Ben Carlos had a stand-out game on defense.

Game 6 vs South Pointe at Moon Valley
Facing fourth ranked South Pointe, the Falcons struggled early, giving up 4 goals in the first 15 minutes of play. But the defense adjusted and played much
better the remainder of the match.  The final score was 6-0.  “South Pointe did a great job of possessing the ball and made it difficult for us to get scoring
opportunities,” said Coach Smith.  In his first action in goal, Anthony Casselman struggled early but ended up with 12 saves, including a couple that were
spectacular. Froilan Maldonado also had a strong game in the midfield.

Game 5 at Gilbert Classical
The Falcons played solid defense and created several scoring opportunities as they defeated Gilbert Classical, 4-0.  Four different players scored, including
Preston Gender, Anthony Casselman, Tyler Hayes, and Dallen Western.

Game 4 at Phoenix Christian
In a though game againt Phoenix Christian, and with about 3 minutes left in the first half, the Falcons had a chance to go up 2-1 with a penalty kick.  The kick
was missed and the Cougars scored on the ensuing play. The Falcons could not recover and fell 1-8. In the frustrating loss, Froilan Maldonado scored a goal
and John Debus played well in the midfield.  

Game 3 vs Florence at Moon Valley
Facing a strong and experienced Florence squad, the Prep struggled losing 0-10.  Ben Carlos played well against on offense that constantly put pressure on
the Falcons. Goalie Addison Farmer had 14 saves.

Game 2 at Arizona Lutheran
The Falcons defeated Arizona Lutheran 7-0 with a strong defensive outing. Freshman goalie Addison Farmer recorded his first shutout of his young career.  
Senior Froilan Maldonado led the offense with a “hat trick” (3 goals) and an assist.  Tyler Hayes had two goals and Josh Herrera and Anthony Casselman
each added a goal.  Four of the goals were assisted with Anthony Casselman having 2 assists.

Game 1 vs Sedona at Moon Valley
The Prep opened their second season with a 5-2 loss against an experienced Sedona squad. After falling behind 4-0 at the half, North Pointe made
adjustments and played a much stronger second half, scoring twice and holding Sedona to one goal. Froilan Maldonado and Tyler Hayes each scored a goal
and the defense finished with an outstanding half.
