Prep Cares assists center that
helps homeless families
Prep Cares sent students to U Mom New Day Center, a specialized center
specifically geared toward homeless families. “They hardly knew what to do
with us! We had such a large group and I don’t think they are used to getting
so many eager volunteers,” said Betsy Wyatt, Junior Class Sponsor.
U Mom New Day Centers is a renovated hotel complex that takes in
homeless families and provides shelter for 4 to 6 weeks with optional meals
and clothing assistance as needed. Once a family begins to get on their feet,
they are moved to a larger suite room where they can reside on a monthly
basis.
Prep Students helped in sorting clothing, organizing the toy room and
preparing one of the renovated banquet rooms to be a wrapping room where
children can go wrap Christmas gifts.
“This is such a great organization. Its very uplifting to see all the good being
done for these kids and their families,” says Rachel Sunderland, the Prep's
Activities Director, “Our students were able to see the difference they made
when they met some of the families they were helping and I know that made
a huge impact."
