Meet 4 - Bourgade High School
In only their fourth meet in school history, North Pointe participated in one of the largest Track & Field meets in the state with 18 teams competing    
(5A-1A). The Lady Falcons began the meet in the 100 meter hurdles with Amber Farmer running an aggressive race and finishing 9th overall with the
time of 21.1. Teammate Devin Haggerty finished 10th overall with the time of 21.3. In the 300 meter hurdles Farmer and Haggerty battled one another
once again, with Farmer (62.2) edging out Haggerty (63.3). In possibly the most challenging race, Sarah Suloff (her first track meet this season) came
out running and ran well finishing 5th in her 400 meter heat with the time of 1:16.86. Also running courageously in the 400 were Cassie Murphy and
Faith Cartagena. The fastest Lady Falcon, Nikole Moreno, held her own in the 100 meter dash running a 14.90 (6th place finish in her heat) and
running a 31.05 (5th in her heat) in the 200 meter dash. The last event for the Lady Falcons was the 4x100 meter relay. Murphy stepped in for injured
Cartagena and ran well. The relay team (Tanya Maldonado, Murphy, Moreno, Farmer) ran fast considering the conditions (1:01.0). The time
established a new school record. The Falcons did not hesitate to pick up where they left off from the last meet. Casey Tanner began the meet by
running the 100 meter dash in 12.6 seconds which was a PR for him. Looking to qualify for state Corey McKinney, ran the 400 meter dash for the first
time and finished 4th overall, with a time of 58.47, which was just short of the state qualifying mark. Corey also ran the 800 meter dash (2:13.2) along
with teammates Gianni Vaiente (2:21.5), Anthony Casselman (2:28.4) and Pascal Tjahjo (2:46.8). Leading the way in the 200 meter dash was new
school record holder Froilan Maldonado (25.80), followed closely by previous record holder Dakota Martin (26.16), Dakota Kallas (28.20) and first
timer Preston Gender (28.50). Running the mile for the first time was Angel Bernal (5:55.3). Running an outstanding time and breaking the previous
school record by almost a half second was the 4x100 meter relay team (Martin, Maldonado, Bryce Harris, Russell Alvarado) with the time of 50.94. In
the field events, Nathan Rice heaved the Discus 75’3 ½” and Dakota Kallas threw the Shot Put 28’8”. Both men set new school records .

Meet 3 - Valley Christian Invitation Meet
At the Valley Christian Invitational, North Pointe's Track & Field Team competed against some of the best in the 2A. The Prep's Corey McKinney won
the 1600 meter race (15:05.07) and the Falcon's 4X800 meter relay team (Ricardo Bernal, Damian Bia, Anthony Casselman, Corey McKinney) also
placed first with a 9:37.50 time. On the ladys side, Devin Haggerty hurdled in both the 100 meter and 300 meters and set personal records (PR) in
both events while placing 8th in the 100 meter hurdles (21:06.3) and 7th in the 300 meter hurdles (61:2). The Prep's speed work is paying off and the
Falcon's 4x100 meter relay team (Tyler Bennett, Jennifer Hall, Tanya Maldonado, Nikole Moreno) ran fast and furious while finishing 3rd with an
impressive time of 63.0 seconds. Finishing the track meet strong was our 4x400 meter relay team (Tyler Bennett, Amber Gorslin, Nikole Moreno,
Cassie Murphy) which placing 4th place (5:25.3). The men showed up and performed!  In the 100 meter dash Froilan Maldonado ran the fastest from
North Pointe with a 13:02 (12th) while newcomer Dakota Martin was on his heels running a 13:05 (13th). The roles were reversed in the 200 meter
dash with Martin (26.18) outrunning Maldonado (26.51) - placing 11th and 15th.  In the 400 meter run every Prep representative ran a personal
record. North Pointe's 400 meter runners were led by Senior Quentin Shoemaker's (9th) overall, Damian Bia's 63.46 (11th) and newcomer Preston
Gender 63.85 (12th). Taking advantage of strategy and experience, The work horse of the team, Ricardo Bernal, ran the 3200 meter run and finished
in 12:38.09 (5th). Junior Spencer Ulman continued to impress his coaches and improved his times in the 110 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles and
finished in 4th place with a time of 19.48. In the 300 meter hurdles, Ulman finished third with a 47.36 time. Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams
finished 3rd overall while continuing to lower the times. "Coach Leon and I are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication by the team," said
Coach Kane Wilson. "The entire team is getting better daily."

Meet 2 - Fountain Hills Open Meet
Corey McKinney became North Pointe's first Track& Field athlete to place first at a meet. He won the 1600 meter race. McKinney joined 4X800
teammates Damian Bia, Anthony Casselman, Cory McKinney and Ricardo Bernal in lowering their 4x800 meter time by more than 23 seconds (9:43.8).
Spencer Ulman continued to run aggressively in the 110 meter hurdles while shaving over a second and a half off his previous time. Nathan Rice
competed well in the Discus while David O’Connor heaved the Shot Put 32’ 5”. The Prep's Devin Haggerty ran a fearless race in the 100 meter
hurdles. After tumbling over the 9th hurdle, Devin picked herself up and still finished the race in 19.6 seconds.

Meet 1 - Valley Christian Open Meet
The Prep was ready to represent in their inaugural track meet.  Running against a stacked field of great 2A athletes, the 4x800 meter team (Damian
Bia, Froilan Maldonado, James Smith, Ricardo Bernal) stepped up to the challenge and ran on outstanding time of 10:10.6 (2nd Place).  The young
and speedy field in the 100 meter dash was run closely by Casey Tanner (13.3), Dakota Kallas (13.4), and Bryce Harris (13.5). Running the 100 meter
dash for the first time, they finished 14th, 15th, and 16th place respectfully.  Froilan Maldonado finshed in the top eight in the 200 meter dash running
a 26.9. Making their presence known was Gianni Valente (2nd) and Bryce Harris (3rd) in the 400 meter dash. Both athletes ran super times of 61.2
and 61.7.  Anthony Casselman ran with the best of them in the 800 meter dash running a 2:31.8, which placed him in 6th overall. Our surprise of the
evening came from the 1600 meter race. Corey McKinney came out and ran like a man on a mission! Running with one of the elite runners in 2A (Sean
Newport of Valley Christian) Corey showed that he would not be intimidated and would not back down. Corey ran with the current State Champion for
two laps. McKinney finishing 2nd (5:08.1) and earned respect from his coaches teammates and opposing athletes. Finishing off the evening for the
men were Vaiente, Tanner, McKinney and Harris running the 4x400. Knowing it was their last event for the evening, these young men ran themselves
into a 3rd place finish, while running a 4:07.1. Tanya Maldonado represented the ladies in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes. Placing 20th in the
100, running a 15.8, 12th in the 200, running a 33.8, and 7th in the 400 with a time of 79.8. Nicole Rock also ran well in both hurdles events. In the 100
meter hurdles she ran a 23.5 to place 11th, and in the 300 meter hurdles placing 11th also running a time of 70.5. "Coach Leon and I understand we
have a long way to go," said Coach Kane Wilson. "But with the continued hard work of our athletes, it will be a pleasure to see them mature and
develop as athletes."
