Football Friday Night 2008 Game Summaries
Game 10 vs Canyon State
Junior Spencer Ulman had a huge night for the Falcons in their final games of the season against Canyon State. Ulman caught three passes for 108
yards including two touchdowns. Sophomore Shariff Johnson and Senior Ren Nunez scored the other two touchdowns for the Falcons. Junior Joseph
Tabor was successful on all four extra points. Senior Parker Johnson led the Prep's defensive attack with 14 tackles (6 unassisted) and Sophomore
Bryce Harris added an interception. Although the Falcons mounted a tremendous comeback in the fourth quarter, they dropped the final games of the
season 34-28.

Game 9 vs Scottsdale Christian
Senior fullback Jonathan Tesch ran for 109 yards and scored two touchdowns in a losing effort to the Eagles from Scottsdale Christian, 63-21.
Cameron Dillon also had a big night with a 40 yard pass reception. James Goshow and Stokeley Session led the defense with 7 tackles while Parker
Johnson added 6 and Ren Nunez had a sack. Session scored the other Falcon touchdown. Joseph Tabor was successful on all three point after
attemps.

Game 8 vs Valley Christian
Senior Jonathan Tesch had a big night against one of the top teams in the State rushing for 100 yards while Senior lineman Parker Johnson scored
the Prep's only points on a 5 yard touchdown run. It was Johnson's first rushing attempt in six years with North Pointe (2 years Jr. High and four years
Varsity). Johnson also showed up on the defensive highlight reel with a sack. Freshmen Stokeley Session led the Falcon's defense with 9 tackles and
on offense had a 41 yard catch and run play. The Falcons fell to the Trojans 51-6.

Game 7 vs Camp Verde
The Falcons began the game against the Cowboys from Camp Verde with a strong first quarter and ended with an equally strong final effort.
Unfortunately however, sandwiched in between was a 36 point second and third quarter effort by the Cowboys on route to their 50-3 win. There were
some bright spots offensively as the Falcon's Shariff Johnson ran for 60 yards, including a 16 yard run, and Jonathan Tesch caught four passes for
55 yards. Stokeley Session led the defense with 6 tackles and James Goshow added 5 while Ren Nunez had a sack and Johnathan Haralson had a
blocked field goal. Joseph Tabor scored the only Falcons points off a 35 yard field goal. Tabor also averaged 41 yards per punt with a long of 61
yards.

Game 6 vs Northwest Christian
For the second week in a row the Falcons were defeated despite the outstanding effort from their defensive and offensive lines. Unfortunately, for
more than the second week in a row the Falcons defensive secondary and offensive passing game did not show up for the contest. The Crusaders
from Northwest Christian threw at will and the Prep continued to bring key offensive drives to a stop with wildly thrown balls and fumbles. A 2nd quarter
series crystallized the entire game. With 1st down and goal and the ball on the half yard line, the Falcon's defensive line stopped the #1 team in the
State (according to power rankings) on two running plays only to have the North Pointe secondary give up a third down touchdown pass. The nearest
North Pointe defender in the end zone was 10 yards away. Northwest remained undefeated, 6-0, with the 44-3 win as North Pointe fell to 2-4. North
Pointe's only score came on a Joseph Tabor 37 yard field goal.

Game 5 vs Williams
Mistakes limited the Falcon's effort as Williams handed the Prep their third loss of the season, 32-11. North Pointe's first mistake actually took place
prior to kick off. For some unexplained reason, the Falcons were not aware that Williams (a 1A school) is only playing 8 man football this season.
Once finding out, they then allowed the game to be altered even though the contest was originally scheduled as 11 man. Once the game began the
mistakes continued as the Prep was unable to move the ball into and through the red zone do to busted plays, penalties, fumbles and interceptions.
The Falcon's defensive secondary continued to not show up giving up big play after big play. North Pointe's scores came on a Joseph Tabor 37 yard
field goal and a Ryan Ward 2 yard TD run followed by a Jon Tesch lateral to James Goshow for the two-point conversion.

Game 4 vs Westwind
The Prep defeated Westwind in North Pointe's annual Homecoming game, 24-6. It was the second time the teams met this season and the Warrior
offense was once again no match for the Falcon's defense. North Pointe came out strong offensively in the first half but had their first drive end with a
fumble and their second drive stalled with penalties. The third drive of the first half also was stopped after another key penalty and a couple of busted
plays. On fourth down, with 23 seconds left to go in the first half, the Prep's Jospeh Tabor was asked to kick a 32 yard field goal. He did and the
Falcons were set to go into the locker room up a 3-0 lead. Tabor wasn't finished, however, as he kicked a perfect squib kick, ran down field and
actually knocked the ball lose. The Falcons recovered the fumble. On the next play, North Pointe's Matthew Arellano threw a 28 yard halfback pass to
Ryan Ward for the touchdown. Tabor added the extra point and in a very quick 8 seconds the Falcons were up 10-0. The momentum carried into the
second half on Ward's 35 yard kick off return. Jon Tesch and the offensive line took over from there and ran the opening drive of the second half 43
yards into the end zone. Tabor added the extra point and the Prep was up 17-0. The Falcons final score came at the beginning of the fourth quarter
as Quarterback Jesse Rico threw a 9 yard pass to Jesse Sunderland. Tabor added the extra point and the Prep went up 24-0. North Pointe's Coach
Hawthorne used the remainder of the fourth quarter to play younger players and late in the game Westwind scored their only points.

Game 3 vs Tonopah
North Pointe played in their first overtime game and came up short as they lost to the Phoenix from Tonopah, 19-13, in front of a huge crowd at Moon
Valley High School. The Falcons came out strong in the first quarter as the offense converted on two successful drives and the defense dominated.
The second quarter was scoreless as the Prep's defense continued to dominate and Tonopah made defensive adjustments and capitalized on the
Falcon's inability to establish a consistent passing game. A big play in the third quarter and an offensive burst in the final minutes of regulation
enabled Tonopah to tie the game. In overtime, the Falcons enabled Tonopah to tie the game. In overtime, the Falcons could not convert on their four
downs. Tonopah, however, scored on their first snap and took the victory.

Game 2 vs Ray
The Falcons went into their game at Ray High School expecting an improved performance and a victory against a team they had beaten last season.
The game began as a defensive battle. Neither team was able to move the ball in the scoreless first quarter. Ray made an offensive adjustment in the
second quarter and basically gave up on the ground game and went to the air. The Falcon's secondary was not up to the challenge and Ray was up
at the half 20-0. The defense, when not on the field for was seems entire quarters at a time, continues to be North Pointe's strength. The Falcons
blocked three extra point attempts and a forced and recovered a fumble that Russell Alvarado took 64 yards for the Prep's only score.

Game 1 vs Westwind
North Pointe defeated Westwind, 14-6, in the season opener of Friday Night Football. The Falcons defense dominated the Warriors with three
interceptions (Bryce Harris, Matthew Arellano, and Parker Johnson) and holding Westwind to three-and-outs for most of the evening.  Westwind's only
score came off an interception at the Prep's four yard line. The Falcons struggled on offense throughout the evening and were dependent on two first
half big plays for their scores: a fourth and one 51 yard run by Russell Alvarado that set up a 3 yard Jon Tesch run and a 39 yard pass play from QB
Jesse Rico to Tight End Ryan Ward. Kicker Joseph Tabor was successful on both of his extra-point attempts.
